Not just another gray day. The sun is shining today which is a nice change. I knew someone who lived in London for two-plus years and the gray skies just about did him in. Enjoy our sunny weather today.
Some of you are just emerging from the loginess of Turkey Day. The way I do it when I host, which I did for a small group this year, is I clean up a whole bunch after the guests leave. Really I do most of it and leave the stubborn pots to soak in the sink. I run the dishwasher. Then, the next day, I do absolutely nothing. I chill out. I go to bed early and the next morning I clean up the rest of the mess. You probably can’t do this if you have a spouse because it will make them crazy to have a sink full of dishes but it works for me and it might work for you.
I have to say, it’s pretty funny when you’re sitting around on Thanksgiving evening and your sons are saying I need a such and such and the other is saying I’m going out to buy a (fill in the blank) and meanwhile you have those things neatly tucked away for the big day. I mean sometimes it’s amusing. Sometimes it means you’ll be making a trip to the UPS store.
Thought for the day:
If I go out on Black Friday and the rest of the weekend is I go only to stores that have dedicated parking lots. No malls, parking garages for this gal. I like knowing I can escape quickly if the store is too crazy. I know, I’m getting pretty particular about things as time goes on. But I remain convinced that the best way to deal with the Christmas shopping frenzy is to stay home and lie on the sofa with a good book.
Here are a few: Tightrope by Simon Mawer and another of his: Trapeze I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes (long but stick with it); All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I may have mentioned this one before. It’s a great one; I learned a lot from it.
The coming season:
Random knowledge: ferrule. It’s the band that attaches the eraser to the pencil. Keep that in mind for your next crossword puzzle.
I am watching Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood because there is going to be an interview with Catherine Deneuve. She is one of the all-time beauties of our world, right up there with Grace. You could wonder why I am so possessed with beautiful women. I often try to channel their style. Audrey, Grace, Catherine. I find them enchanting. Plus, in the case of Catherine Deneuve, the accent is awesome.
The same goes for Pharrell. I love his style. I don’t want to look like him but he carries it off so well.
I know there are terrible things going on in the world. Horrific mud slides, plane crashes, horrible deaths. I don’t write about these things because I have nothing to add. You can find many, many articles to read about these disasters. Know that I am aware of the terrible things in the world but I choose to use this spot as a place to retreat, take in some beauty, enjoy a bit of banter and relax..
Just a few things to think about on this Sunday. It’s never a bad thing to stop and take stock of what’s going on in your life.
I, for one, am going to be putting in more effort with my blog. I’d like to figure out how to do advertising. I have a few clients who can start for free. They’ll be my control group. You could ask what the point of my blog is ( a valid question). I really just try to find something inspiring to post to make your day more enjoyable. We can visit far-off climates and take virtual adventures. Sometimes just a simple picture of a flower will brighten your day.
Sometimes being a cat isn’t all that much fun.
Have you thought about others lately? I know, a little Pollyanna-ish …
This is how I’ll feel if the weather ever improves.
Don’t you just want to bury your face in these beauties?
Now we’re talkin’ …
I sooo wish I had thought of this.
All of these photos are randomly chosen from various web pages, Pinterest, etc. If there is a specific photographer I will take note.
